I was inspired to document our story because of the current state of the Hip Hop industry and what I see as a critical gap in how the next generation understands the foundation of this culture. Too many young people today consume Hip Hop without knowing what it took to build it—the sacrifice, the creativity born from struggle, the community that nurtured genius in the most unexpected places. As someone who witnessed Lambert Houses' role in Hip Hop's genesis firsthand, I felt a responsibility to preserve this history before it's lost or rewritten by people who weren't there. This documentary isn't just about nostalgia; it's about giving the icons who built this culture an opportunity to represent themselves and share their experiences in their own words, unfiltered and authentic. These are the first-generation legends of Hip Hop—MC Sha-Rock, Rahiem, and so many others who called Lambert Houses home during the most transformative period in music history. Their stories deserve to be told by them, not through secondhand accounts or corporate narratives that sanitize the struggle and the streets that shaped the sound. I wanted to create a platform where these pioneers could speak directly to the next generation, passing down not just the history, but the spirit, the ethics, and the community values that made Hip Hop a revolutionary force. This is their legacy, and I'm honored to help them share it before time and gentrification erase the evidence of what happened here. Before our home, Lambert Houses, is dismantled and becomes a metropolis of new, state-of-the-art luxury high-risers that have no knowledge of its footprint, I needed to capture what this place meant—and still means—to Hip Hop culture and the world. Redevelopment is inevitable, and I understand progress, but progress without memory is erasure. When those new buildings go up and new residents move in, they need to know they're walking on sacred ground. They need to know that the hallways, courtyards, and corners of Lambert Houses were the laboratories where a global cultural and financial powerhouse was born. This documentary is my contribution to ensuring that Lambert Houses is never forgotten, and that the legends who emerged from here are forever recognized as the architects of a movement that changed the world.
